This article walks through the steps to become a VEX-certified Event Partner with the Global Robotics and Science Foundation. It is written for anyone interested in hosting official VEX Robotics Competition events, including schools, nonprofit organizations, booster clubs, businesses, community groups, and individuals.
Event Partners take on a meaningful commitment: creating safe, welcoming, and positive competition environments where students come first, following the guides and policies that keep events fair and consistent, and working closely with their Program Support Team throughout the season. The steps below get you there, and none of them require prior event-hosting experience.
Definitions of the terms used here are maintained in the central glossary. If you are still deciding whether the role is for you, start with What Is an Event Partner?
Reach Out to Your Program Support Team
Becoming an Event Partner does not begin with an application form. It begins with a conversation with the Program Support Team, the Global Robotics staff who manage team and event support for your region.
Contact your Program Support Team and let them know you are interested in hosting events. They will answer your questions, talk through opportunities in your community, and help you think about what kind of event would be a good fit for your experience and resources. If you are unsure who is on your Program Support Team, you can find their contact information at events.vex.com/support.
This is the same team that will support you throughout your journey as an Event Partner, so this first conversation is the beginning of a working relationship, not a gate to get through.
Create Your Account on events.vex.com
If you do not already have one, create an account at events.vex.com. This is the platform where you will create and manage your events, and where teams will find and register for them.
Get Certified
The Event Partner Certification Course (coming soon) walks through everything you need to host a VEX Robotics Competition event with confidence, from planning your first event to wrapping it up.
To take the course, you will need a VEX Account. Learn more about creating a VEX Account in this article.
Receive Event Partner Permissions
Once you have completed the certification course, notify your Program Support Team. They will assign Event Partner permissions to your account.
You will know your permissions are active when an Admin tab appears in the upper right-hand corner of your dashboard on events.vex.com. The Admin tab is your home base as an Event Partner. It provides access to the tools used to create and manage events.
You Are an Event Partner! Now the Fun Part
With your permissions active, you are ready to start planning your first event alongside your Program Support Team. Remember that official events are reviewed and approved by your Program Support Team before they become visible to teams, so every event you build starts as a conversation with them.
As you plan, the Event Partner Planning Checklist can help you track key tasks leading up to your event.
