This article covers connecting a computer to a Smart Field Controller and a screen, so it can show a Smart Field Control display. You can use either a laptop or a Raspberry Pi.

It is written for Event Partners setting up a Smart Field Controller for an event.

Definitions of the terms used here are maintained in the central glossary.

Connect the Computer

Connect the computer to a power source to ensure it doesn't lose power throughout the event.

If you're using a Raspberry Pi, use a power adapter rated for at least 3 amps.

Connect the computer to the screen you want it to control.

Connect to Tournament Manager

Every computer must be running the latest version of Tournament Manager to connect to the event's server correctly. Connecting a laptop versus a Raspberry Pi to the network works a bit differently in Tournament Manager — for the steps, see the VEX Tournament Manager Software User Guide.

Once the display is connected, you can start the program on the Smart Field Controller:

  • FC Match for a Match Field
  • FC Skills for a Skills Challenge Field
