Priority Registration and Tokens

Priority Registration gives teams an early opportunity to register for events before registration opens to all teams, helping teams with fewer event registrations have fair access to competition opportunities throughout the season. This article explains how the Priority Registration period, Priority Registration tokens, event waitlists, and Standard Registration work. It is written for teams, coaches, organization administrators, and team contacts.

Definitions of the terms used here are maintained in the central glossary.

For how to register once a period opens, see the Preparing to Register for an Event and Registering for an Event.

How Priority Registration Works

Priority Registration Period

The Priority Registration period begins as soon as an event opens for registration and lasts for two weeks, at which point Standard Registration begins.

During the Priority Registration period, eligible teams may register for the event before registration opens to all teams. A team is eligible if its registration fee has been paid and it has an unused Priority Registration token in the pool that matches the event type. Teams that are not eligible during this period may still join the event waitlist.

All Signature Events include a Priority Registration period. For local season events, the availability of a Priority Registration period varies by region, so teams should check each event page for its registration dates.

Standard Registration Period

Standard Registration begins two weeks following the opening of Priority Registration and opens to all teams if space is still available. Standard Registration is first come, first served, and does not require a token.

Priority Registration Tokens

Each team begins the season with two separate pools of Priority Registration tokens: three (3) tokens for local season events and three (3) tokens for Signature Events. These pools are separate, so using a token from one pool does not affect the tokens available in the other. Token pools do not reset or replenish during the season.

When a team registers for an event during the Priority Registration period, one token is used automatically from the matching pool. If a team later withdraws from the event, the token is not returned. Once a team has used all three tokens in a pool, it may no longer register for additional events of that type during the Priority Registration period. Teams that have used all available tokens may still join an event waitlist or register during the Standard Registration period, if space remains available.

To identify whether an event is a local season event or a Signature Event, check the Level Class shown on the event page on events.vex.com.

Checking Your Token Balance

Teams can view their remaining Priority Registration tokens in their events.vex.com account under My Teams.

Waitlists During Priority Registration

Teams that are not eligible to register during the Priority Registration period may join the event waitlist. Joining the waitlist does not use a token and does not guarantee that the team will be added to the event, so teams should continue to monitor the event page and available registration dates. When Standard Registration opens, teams may need to return to the event page to complete registration if space is available, and Event Partners may also use the waitlist to invite teams when spots become available.

A token is used only when a team is moved from the waitlist into the event during the Priority Registration period. If a team is moved from the waitlist into the event after Standard Registration has opened, no token is used, even if the team has no tokens remaining.

What Teams Should Do

Teams should review event pages carefully and pay attention to both Priority Registration and Standard Registration dates. Teams are encouraged to:

  • Register early when eligible.
  • Join the waitlist if registration is not available.
  • Monitor event pages for registration updates.
  • Communicate with the Event Partner if they have questions.
