Priority Registration helps teams have fair access to competition opportunities throughout the season by giving teams with fewer event registrations an earlier opportunity to register, before registration opens to all eligible teams. This prevents events from filling immediately with teams that have already secured multiple competition opportunities and helps ensure that more teams have a reasonable chance to participate in official events. It is written for teams, coaches, organization administrators, and team contacts.
Definitions of the terms used here are maintained in the central glossary.
For how to register once a period opens, see the Event Registration Overview and How to Register for an Event.
How Priority Registration Works
Priority Registration Period
During the Priority Registration period, eligible teams may register for the event before registration opens to all teams. A team's eligibility may be based on the number of events the team is already registered for or the type of event. Teams that are not eligible during this period may still join the event waitlist.
Standard Registration Period
After the Priority Registration period ends, Standard Registration opens to all eligible teams if space is still available. Teams may then register based on available capacity and any published event requirements.
Priority Registration Tokens
Each team begins the season with two separate pools of Priority Registration tokens: three (3) tokens for local season events and three (3) tokens for Signature Events. These pools are separate, so using a token from one pool does not affect the tokens available in the other. Tokens allow a team to register for events during the Priority Registration period.
When a team registers for an event during the Priority Registration period, one token is used from the matching pool. Once a team has used all three tokens in a pool, it may no longer register for additional events of that type during the Priority Registration period. Teams that have used all available tokens may still join an event waitlist or register during the Standard Registration period, if space remains available.
Waitlists During Priority Registration
If a team is not eligible to register during the Priority Registration period, it may be able to join the event waitlist. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee that the team will be added to the event, so teams should continue to monitor the event page and available registration dates. When Standard Registration opens, teams may need to return to the event page to complete registration if space is available, and Event Partners may also use the waitlist to invite teams when spots become available.
What Teams Should Do
Teams should review event pages carefully and pay attention to both Priority Registration and Standard Registration dates. Teams are encouraged to:
- Register early when eligible.
- Join the waitlist if registration is not available.
- Monitor event pages for registration updates.
- Communicate with the Event Partner if they have questions.
